So, has anyone thought
about this?
If you have, then read
my perspective. If you haven't, then just read on.
I am not insanely well
read about the beings (what an oxymoron!) of the “other world”
and neither am I a psychologist, this is just an opinion well
elaborated. You can never stop wondering, can you?
The power of mind is so
immense, that it has the capacity to create/ produce, recreate/
reproduce and justify almost anything seen or imagined at any given
point of time. Agreed? Now, personally, I haven't had any strange,
curious or inconceivable episode in my life that scared the s**t out
of me. But. yes, I have watched movies that have made me go pale and
given me the adrenaline rush, YES! So Mr. Spirit, if you are reading
this, Hi!
Here's what I think is
a plausible understanding of “spirits” or “ghosts”. Whatever
we hear, see or pick up while eavesdropping gets primed and
accumulated in our “unconscious” even without the awareness of
the “conscious”. Also, when the fear of the wraith exists within
oneself, phantom apparitions make frequent visits to one's mind. One
cannot rule out the possibility of these strange happenings being an
unconscious esthesis of the mind, what one calls “hallucinations”.
So, I do think the mind is capable of playing tricks on us. Perhaps,
in some of us, that capacity is more pronounced and they are more
susceptible to hearing things or seeing things or drawing inferences.
But, that does not
explain the strange occurings in many “haunted” locations, does
it? Well, to some extent, it does. Whenever something achieves the
status “paranormal”, it usually starts off as an enumeration of the
“experience” of someone, or the historical (read Gothic)
significance of that place like, a murder, a war, a suicide or even
the natural death of a dissatisfied being. These enumerations undergo
several reformations and become the legendary yet shuddering “ghost”
story that sends a chill down the spine. Hence an impression of the
supernatural is created which does all the creepy cruel things.
Yes, most of you
“believers” won't agree, so again, just a plausible perception!
There is more! Now,
what about possessions? Looking at it from my point of view, you will
again see the mind playing a significant role. How? Heard about
“Dissociative Identity Disorder” (DID) or “Multiple Personality
Disorder” (MPD) or “Split Personalities”? The human mind and
body are capable of astounding strength, something that the conscious
mind cannot comprehend. Sometimes a person develops an alter ego so
strong that it disseminates into a completely different personality
inside the same person, of which the main personality is unaware.
This may gibe the descriptions of a demonic or spiritual possession
and hence are seemingly supernatural.
Yes! The mind can
create extremely vivid and lucid visions/ apparitions/ imaginations
or out of body experiences and also justify them. Come to think of
it, they may just be a figment of imagination.
Think about it!
